Info from the January Meeting

Fun was had by all at the second meeting of the Seattle Camellia Society. Randall Hitchin, curator for the camellia collection at the Washington Park Arboretum,.members and friends toured the Arboretum's camellia collection and the Japanese Garden. We had cookies and coffee to begin the meeting provided by Debby Smith. We started at the curation office with a short discussion about Higo camellias by Randall. The suggestion was made to go to Japan to see Higo camellias in 2010 with the International Camellia Society. Higo camellias' are very condusive to Seattle's climate. Higos were the samurai's camellias. The difference in pruning of Japanese Garden camellias and the free growing camellias of the collection was explained by Randall. We will have further instruction on pruning if some are interested. The arborist of the Arboretum will provide that opportunity.

Now is the time to disbud and gib your camellias if you wish.

Next meeting is March 16th 2pm at Graham Visitor's Center. Class on preparing for the March 30th Camellia Show.
